Reviewer: Nerble - favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 10, Subject: Interesting Films I'm happy to find these and I appreciate their availability. Its not easy to find films from this time period in Germany, whether they're Nazi propaganda or not. I don't believe in censorship, so its nice to see at least some other people share that view.
I wouldn't all these 'great' films. A few were quite good and had nothing to do with propaganda, but most of them were about as subtle as a hammer to the skull. Reviewer: Gov Bud Hudnut - - December 29, Subject: no rating possible This is a valuable collection of films ranging from the anodyne musicals, frothy romances, comedies to the utterly despicable and inhuman- Nazi propaganda of the coarsest quality.
These productions are infrequently encountered, and their preservation is an important service to students of cinema, of history, and of the monstrous death cult known as National Socialism. Reviewer: Themanofoneland - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 20, Subject: The greatest collection of films out there!!!
These films stand as a testament to the genius of cinema in the Third Reich and the beauty of films with no Jewish influences on them. These are some of the best films ever made and you can see them all here and now. Reviewer: Nyanentity - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 16, Subject: Thank you from Japan!
This is a wonderful collection! This list of recordings was the names I looked up on bit torrent sites and the Title from the Victrola records. I am reconstructing electronically the 3 boxes of records although they are not from the records themselves. The rarest one I am trying to find is a tape of the recording from the Railway ride at Camden Park.
The cars for this train was also made at this company. Reviewer: yura 14 - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 21, Subject: yura 14 Gratitude for an amazing collection of songs. Did you know Edit. Trivia At the wrap party, Rosalind Russell was dancing with George Cukor , when Ernst Lubitsch passed her and said, "If you want more close-ups in the picture, never mind dancing with your director, you'd better dance with Norma Shearer!
Goofs The second model to enter for the fashion show is wearing a top with red spots possibly strawberries and a red skirt. After the cut she's wearing a top with red and blue stripes and a white skirt. Quotes Crystal Allen : There's a name for you ladies, but it isn't used in high society Crazy credits In the opening credits, before the photo images of the actresses are shown, their characters are revealed by images of various animals.
Alternate versions At the start of the Technicolor Adrian fashion show, the video and TV versions have traditionally shown a Technicolor stage in the middle of the screen surrounded by pure white this always struck me as odd but I never thought too much about it. Presumably, because the reel starts right BEFORE the transition, it was either too much trouble and expense to process the small bit of stray black and white footage for television it would have to have been printed separately onto each release print in or, more likely, the footage has been lost.
The new video and cable versions show The Women in a reconstruction of the original version, with the Technicolor stage printed over a black and white still from later in the film. The image, as now presented, is much less jarring than the original video release. The fashion show was also shot in black and white, with the models interacting with the stars as they move throughout the boutique. After principal photography ended, MGM decided to re-shoot the fashion show in Technicolor this color footage was not shot by George Cukor and the models no longer interact with Norma Shearer , 'Rosalind Russell', etc.
Older television prints often showed the fashion show in black and white, but it was not this alternate footage, just the color sequence printed without its tints.

The performances all blend together perfectly, which is what you need if you are going to tell a story like this. Joan Crawford is sublime as the husband stealer and Norma Shearer plays the usual virtuous kind of part she always played in her career. However in my opinion, Roz Russell, who played Mrs. Fowler simply is at her best. It is one of the most funny and exquisite performances that i have ever seen given by an actress on film. It is plain to see she only cares about herself and her own superficial motives but you cant help being on her side and enjoying all the trouble she stirs up.
